Qué es un Startup Weekend

En tan sólo 54 horas, logramos que todos los participantes de Startup Weekend vivan las diferentes facetas que trae consigo la creación de una startup, dejando en ellos un aprendizaje que facilita el acceso a la cultura de innovación. Al inicio los asistentes presentan sus mejores ideas para formar equipos. El miércoles y el jueves se enfocan en validarlas, practicar metodologías de Lean Startup y construir un producto mínimamente viable. El viernes en la tarde, demuestran sus startups y reciben retroalimentación de un panel de expertos.

¿Qué harás en el evento?

En este evento de 54 horas, Startup Weekend Corporate te ayudará a hacer tangible una idea poniendo en práctica la pasión por el desarrollo que tenemos en el Banco.

1. Trae una idea (o únete a un grupo que presente una idea que te interesa): La idea debe ser sobre un proceso, producto, programa, o servicio que innove en cómo trabajamos, como colaboramos y somos más ágiles y eficientes en el Grupo BID.

2. Seduce a la audiencia: En 1 minuto los asistentes se deben enamorar de tu idea, por lo tanto, deberás saber cómo venderla para cautivarlos y con ganas de ser parte de tu equipo.

3. Se parte de un equipo: ¡Todos pueden participar! No importa que no tengas una idea propia. Si una idea captura tu atención ¡no lo dudes y haz equipo!

4. Convence a los jueces: Al final del último día, le vendes tu prototipo a los jueces. Esto es tan importante como tu idea en sí, debes transmitir los puntos primordiales e importantes.

5. Aprende: El objetivo en este evento es aprender mientras se trabaja, reflexionar y explorar nuevos modelos de co-crear. Recuerda que tendrás la agradable experiencia de trabajar y compartir con otras personas apasionadas por el desarrollo y la innovación.

20 de julio – Bootcamp de Introducción: Pitching y Validación

Ven y participa este miércoles 20 de julio de 9 a.m. a 12 p.m. en el Bootcamp de Introducción a Startup Weekend, en el Auditorio Andrés Bello, donde obtendrás conocimientos importantes para tener un mejor desempeño durante el Startup Weekend Grupo BID de julio 27-29.

  • 9:00 a 9:20 a.m. – Arrancamos: Bienvenida, explicación del contenido por. Facilitador del bootcamp
  • 9:20 a 9:30 – Ejercicio de pitching con todo el grupo
  • 9:30 a 9:45 – Presentación sobre mejores prácticas para Pitching
  • 9:45 a 10:15 – División en grupos pequeños para practicar sobre lo aprendido con ayuda de los co-facilitadores
  • 10:15 a 10:30 – Sesión grupal para retroalimentación de los pitches elegidos en los sub-grupos
  • 10:30 a 10:50 – Break
  • 10:50 a 11:10 – Presentación sobre validación con beneficiarios
  • 11:10 a 11:40 – División en grupos pequeños para hacer ejercicios de validación de beneficiarios (suposiciones retadoras y diseño de pruebas útiles) con ayuda de los co-facilitadores
  • 11:40 a 12:00 p.m. – Sesión con todo el grupo, wrap-up y aprendizajes del ejercicios de validación con beneficiarios

Nuria Simo

CIO for the Inter-American Development Bank

On May 1st of 2014, Nuria Simo became the CIO for the Inter-American Development Bank. Before joining the Bank, Nuria worked on global ERP implementations, infrastructure consolidations and organizational transformations for 15 years at Cargill Inc. in Spain, USA and The United Kingdom.

After that period, she became the CIO of the Flavours and Fragances Business Unit of ICI in The Netherlands for 5 years, where she consolidated and globalized the IT function, implemented SAP and renovated the infrastructure. Following, she became the Corporate CIO for EADS (European Aeronautics, Defense and Space) based in Germany for 3 years, where she led the first phase of the Shared Services initiative.

In January 2009, she joined Frieslandcampina, third largest dairy company in the world, to lead the IT function after the merger, and created one global IT function, launched a major ERP and BI program, and renovated and consolidated infrastructures. At the end of 2011, Nuria went back to Spain to take the CIO role at Campofrio Food Group (European Food Processed Meat company) in order to deliver an ERP and Business Intelligence program which implemented one template in 6 countries and, at the same time, consolidated the IT function from 6 countries into one global IT team.

Federico Basañes

Manager of Knowledge and Learning

Federico Basañes, an Argentinean citizen, current Manager of Knowledge and Learning.

Earlier, he served as Chief of the IDB’s Water and Sanitation Division (2007-2013). During his 17-year career at the Bank, Mr. Basañes worked on issues related to infrastructure and led many operations in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Mr. Basañes is the author of several articles and publications on infrastructure, mainly in the areas of water and sanitation, energy, and transportation. His areas of expertise also include private participation in the provision of public services, and regulation.

Mr. Basañes is a graduate of the University of Buenos Aires in Argentina. He holds a M.A. in Public Policy from the Torcuato Di Tella Institute in Argentina

Marcelo Cabrol

Gerente, Oficina de Relaciones Externas

Marcelo Cabrol, ciudadano argentino, fue nombrado gerente de la Oficina de Relaciones Externas desde febrero de 2012. Antes de asumir este cargo se desempeñó como Jefe de la División de Educación del BID (2007-2012).

Previamente fue asesor del Vicepresidente Ejecutivo del BID y Especialista Senior del Sector Social en los Departamentos de Operaciones Cono Sur y Centroamérica y México. En este último cargo encabezó la preparación de operaciones de préstamo y estudios en las áreas de educación, pobreza y protección social. Anteriormente fue consultor en educación y políticas sociales del Departamento de Desarrollo Sostenible. También fue profesor adjunto en la Universidad de Georgetown en Washington, DC y en la Universidad del Salvador en Buenos Aires, Argentina.

El señor Cabrol es licenciado en economía y graduado de la Universidad de Georgetown (Máster y PhD ABD) en Políticas Públicas y Gobierno.

Leslie A. Jump

Leslie has over twenty-five years experience building, advising and investing in new companies, products and brands, in the US and across the globe. She is the Founder and CEO of Startup Angels, a platform to inspire and enable new angel investors around the world. Prior to that, she was a Partner in Sawari Ventures, LLC, a Cairo-based early stage venture capital firm investing in entrepreneurs across the Middle East/North Africa. She continues as an advisor to Flat6Labs, Sawari Ventures’ dedicated startup accelerator for seed stage investments. She serves on the Board of UP Global, a network of entrepreneurs and startup community leaders. She is an alumna of St. Johns College (Annapolis, MD/Santa Fe, NM), and serves on its Board of Visitors and Governors.

Néstor H. Roa

Manager a.i. Infrastructure and Environment Sector Inter-American Development Bank

Néstor Roa is currently the Manager of the Infrastructure and Environment Sector and Chief of the Transport Division. Before joining the Bank in 2001, Mr. Roa was Director and Commissioner of the Communications Regulatory Commission of Colombia. He also worked at the National Planning Department where he was Director of Infrastructure and Energy, Chief of the Transport Division, Chief of the Infrastructure Policy Division and Transport Specialist. He has also worked in the Colombian private sector. Mr. Roa holds a Master’s Degree in Management of Technology (MSc.) from the Sloan Business School of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), a Master’s Degree in Transportation Engineering (MSc. in Civil Engineering) from Virginia Tech and a BS. in Civil Engineering from the Javeriana University of Bogota Colombia (1986).

Andre Averbug

His professional experience also includes stints at the World Bank, Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES).

Fanny Krivoy

Founder and Creative Director of Studio Analogous

Fanny is Founder and Creative Director of Studio Analogous, a design firm which concepts, designs and builds products and services for the Global 5000, startups and non-profits. In her role, Fanny advises business leaders on the power of design, technology and brand to deliver business and social results. Her professional experience includes executive creative roles at Schematic, Organic and Renegade Marketing. Fanny studied design at Instituto de Diseño in Caracas, Venezuela and specialized in Typographic Design from the London College of Communication. She is frequently a guest lecturer/ judge in design competitions and her work has been published and exhibited in Latin America, the United Kingdom and the United States.

Joshua Goldberg

Partner and Strategy Director of Studio Analogous

Josh is Partner and Strategy Director of Studio Analogous, a design firm which concepts, designs and builds products and services for the Global 5000, startups and non-profits. Josh counsels growing companies and operating units on business strategy and planning, product development and delivery. His professional experience spans traditional and digital businesses. Josh began his career at MTV where he managed production, programming and operations for the channel’s international affiliates. Since then, he has held leadership roles in strategy at Schematic, Organic and as an in-house consultant to established and new companies. Josh holds degrees from Colby College (BA) and Columbia Business School (MBA).

Saleema Vellani

Serial Entrepreneur & Marketing Director

Saleema Vellani is the Marketing Director at Honeycomb, a D.C.-based digital marketing agency. She is also the City Manager for Upwork, formerly Elance-oDesk, which is a global online work platform that connects businesses and freelancers. In her first venture, Saleema helped launch and lead a language school in Rio de Janeiro to financially support a rural orphanage in Brazil. She then started an online translation business which hit a six-figure cashflow within the first six months as well as an e-commerce website selling WordPress themes. Saleema sold both businesses prior to joining the Inter-American Development Bank in 2012, where she consulted for three years. Saleema holds a Master’s degree in International Economics and International Relations from Johns Hopkins University and a Bachelor’s degree in International Development from McGill University. She has spent most of her professional life between Brazil, Canada, Dominican Republic, Italy and the USA. In her free time, she enjoys learning new languages, cooking, traveling and salsa dancing.

Valerie Lorena

Valerie está a cargo del diseño, implementación y expansión de programas hemisféricos de emprendimiento, liderazgo e innovación juvenil que involucran sectores y actores internacionales a diferentes niveles. Antes de unirse a YABT en 2005, Valerie trabajo en el departamento de Relaciones Internacionales de la Universidad UCO en Querétaro, México donde era responsable de la movilidad internacional de los estudiantes y acuerdos institucionales globales. Tiene una Maestría Trilateral en Negocios MBA de las siguientes universidades: Western Illinois University en los Estados Unidos, Université de Moncton en Canadá y la Universidad Autónoma de Querétaro en México.
